Sex and the... education

Sex.
Think about it.

When did you first knew this three letter word was dirty? That you were not supposed to use it in polite conversation? That you did not know, till after a long time (or short time, perhaps) what it means, really means? And how much it changed things? Changed how you viewed girls / boys, marriage, births etc.?

That you talked with friends about it...you tried to read all you could about it? And not a single word was from your school syllabus?

Why is it, that in a country like ours, who is known as land of Kamasutra and the second most populous country in the world, sex is a taboo? Why is it that sex education is still not compulsory for children?

And worried parents will think that perhaps we are encouraging kids to think about sex and do it. Yeah right! They will do it anyway, now or later. Sooner or later, they have to do it! Its better they know what they are getting into and how to go about it. The precautions, the risks, pregnancy, birth control etc. And what safer place to learn this than in a classroom, by a well-informed, knowledgeable teacher?

Better than asking people who have hardly any clue themselves. I have heard educated people (graduates, working) saying that a girl can become a virgin again if she doesn't have sex for 2-3 months or more. Ye-sss...

Our education system is anyways going down the drain. Now kids are being told they no longer have to work hard, because hey, we won't fail you. No matter what your marks are, we will give a grade, even if you are merit-listed, so don't sweat so much! Life isn't so difficult you see. Why, there be will a reservation for your sex/caste/religion somewhere in some industry/field, so don't stress kid!

Among other things, I have just added another page to my blog. It will be about my all other blogs, in case you already can't get enough of me haha :P

I remember the shy faces of teachers in the biology classes. And curiosities on the students' trying to comprehend and then giving up and then vomiting the definitions blankly onto the exam sheets.... Sex edu is a must. It will take time for that kind of acceptance here in India may be...

Interesting thoughts. I think awakening of the youth is the only way to bring about change in our mentality and approach to sensitive issues like religion, politics and ofcourse sex.

Education system, yes it needs a reform but not so abrupt. We need to find a way with optimal benefits. Yes our system has many deficiencies but theirs isnt perfect either. Our education system focuses more on excelling the exams and western system gives scope for creative thinking. They have the liberty to do so, we still do not have. Our industry is not mature in all fields to absorb people so freely. And last but not the least, we are atleast 100 for any seat in a university or behind an office desk. So merit must hold, the competition should always be there. It helps people get over their inefficiencies, limitations and teaches them to fight for survival.

Quite a collection of thoughts on your blog, you write on a range of topics. Impressive. Off to the long list of your other blogs

@all.. and what's with all these chinese comments on my blog?? :P

2ranvijya.. you have a lot to say, and what you are saying makes perfect sense to me. We really do not need drastic changes ... or we will have a dumbed down generation in our hands...

"awakening of the youth"... when we are young, we are all for change, but as soon as we hit the 30's or 40's (read the older generation) all we want is tradition, tradition.. :P so it should be awakening of the older generation.. after all, parents, teachers and ministers belong to that generation..

@ani_aset: lucky you.. it should be made compulsory all over the country..

@commited to life: oh I agree! what were they thinking? just because some people cannot handle failure, those who succeed are supposed to act dumb? they all so need to read an Ayn rand book!!! Life ain't fair or partial to failures like that.. they have to get their act together..

@The Sage: they are already rotting the system.. whatever is left of it..
